On January 18, 2011, Marion Ralph Snyder, 82, passed on in Milwaukie, Oregon with his family by his side after a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. The son of Ruth Hoeltke and Young Snyder, he was born on February 8, 1928. He attended Franklin High School. He entered into the Navy in 1947, where he was an RDSN and involved in World War II and the Korean War. He then went on to be employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 8 years. Marion began his business career in 1958.

He met his lifelong wife, Barbara Snyder, at the Oaks Park Skating Rink, and they were married for 61 years until her passing in December of 2009.

They lived on the Long Beach Peninsula for more than 40 years and owned the Ocean Park Tourist Camp for many years. Marion was a humble man, who quietly served in his community. He volunteered his time as a Fireman and EMT, to school fundraisers, to his three daughters, and whereever he could lend a helping hand.

Mr. Snyder loved fishing, hunting, belonging to the Men's Golf Club in Long Beach, going to his grandchildren's activities, and traveling with friends in the Slo-Laners RV Group, going south in the winter, and of course, he loved making Navy Beans. He took pride in doing nice things for his family. He will be forever missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his daughters, Sheryl Law and Kathie Kyle of Milwaukie, Ore., and Tammie Snyder of McMinnville, Ore., his sisters, Eleanor Bartlett, Oregon City, Ore., Helen Stoughton, Gladstone, Ore., and five grandchildren, Kim DuBois, Donny Law, Sarah Markham, Angela Schaplow, Hannah Markham; and seven great-grandchildren, Henry, Claire, Mason, Logan, Duke, Kallie and Reece. He is pre-deceased by his parents and his brother, Clarke Hoeltke and sister barbara Jean Lettenmaier.

His cremated remains will be placed privately at Willamette National Cemetery. At Marion's request there will not be a public memorial. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to your favorite charity.
