Robert Lee Comer

Robert Lee Comer, 81, of Monroe, passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Burks Comer, and is survived by his soulmate, Patsy Campbell "Patty Cake."

Born Nov. 22, 1929, in Grayson County, he was a son of the late Leeander and Caledonia Blevins Comer. He was also preceded in death by a son, Mickey D. Comer, and seven siblings.

Mr. Comer was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was retired from the City of Hampton and was a member of Elon Baptist Church.

Survivors also include four children, Shelby Burford and husband, Edward, of Monroe, Cindy Perdue and husband, Gene, of Bedford, Robert Dewayne Comer and wife, Maryann, of Hampton, and Michael Comer, of Monroe; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at Whitten Monelison Chapel, and at other times at the residence.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Elon Baptist Church by the Rev. Steve Tyree. Interment will follow in Elon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Elon Baptist Church.
