C.B. was born in Tahoka, Texas and was the only child of Clardy and Grace Barton. He spent his early years in West Texas and Hobbs, New Mexico where he attended high school. He was a combat veteran of the U.S. Army and served with the 468th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion attached to the U.S. Third Army. His unit participated in the relief of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge. C.B. came to California in 1952 and worked in Taft and Bakersfield until his retirement. He married the love of his life, Fran, in July of 1981 and spent his retirement happily restoring cars, scrounging garage sales, tinkering with anything that needed fixing and enjoying being with Fran and his children and grandchildren. He loved family gatherings and playing the role of "expert chef". C.B. is survived by his wife, Frances Barton; son John Barton and wife Debbie; son Jerry and wife Jana, son Curtis Kunzmann and wife Robin; six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Chapel service will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 11:00 am at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd. with burial at Bakersfield National Cemetery at 2:00 pm. There will be no visitation. The family would like to thank the kind people of Optimal Hospice for their assistance during a difficult time. In lieu of flowers, do what C.B. would prefer and have a "family gathering".
