He survived the war. He enlisted in Company F, Massachusetts 27th Infantry Regiment on September 20, 1861. He mustered out on June 23, 1863 at New Berne, North Carolina. He was wounded and received a disability discharge. He married Elvira Phelps, daughter of Samuel Phelps of Easthampton, Massachusetts on April 9, 1851.
