Elizabeth was the youngest of 3 children born to Nellie Stephens-Lippincott, (Socialite and daughter of Moline, IL, manufacturer , George W Stephens) and Charles Howard Lippincott, (Early Hollywood real estate mogul).

Elizabeth's first husband was Marvin Roser Kellogg. The marriage ended in divorce.

She was briefly married to songwriter Nacio Herb Brown. They married March 14, 1939 in Tempe, Arizona. Elizabeth divorced Nacio in Reno in 1941.
