Wilton-- Mrs Edith Merrill Sawyer, wife of Earl W. Sawyer, died early Saturday morning after an illness of several months.
She was born at Pownal, Feb. 26, 1883, the daughter of Horace and Mira O'dell Merrill. She was educated at Yarmouth Academy and Gorham Normal school. She taught at Cousen's Island, Beverly, Mass., and before her marriage, Dec 10, 1913, was principal of the Central grammar school in Wilton.
Mrs. Sawyer was a member and assistant clerk of Wilton Congregational church, president of the World Service club and past president of the Tyngtown club.
In addition to her husband, she leaves two daughters, Miss Mira Sawyer, a teacher at Lasalle Junior College, Mrs John Stinchfield of Westbrook; two brothers, Lewis Merrill of Berlin, N.H., Maurice Merrill of Bethel, Conn., and a half sister, Mrs. Flora Sweetser of Auburn.
