Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Harper.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Danville, of the St. Joan of Arc Parish Community. Father Michael Peltzer will officiate the services.

Memorials may be given in memory of Bill to Envision or to the St. Joan of Arc Parish of Harper County and can be sent in care of the funeral home.

William R. "Bill" Watts, 91 passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011 at the Harper Hospital.

Bill was born June 3, 1919, in Anthony, Kansas to William and Dorothy (Dobson) Watts. As a youth, he attended grade school in Anthony, Wichita, Alva, OK, Herrington and Harper.

Later, he attended Harper High School, where he was an outstanding three-sport letterman in football, basketball and track. At Harper High, he was the captain of the football team and participated in a variety of other high school organizations and activities. He was a member of the HHS graduating class of 1937.

On October 12, 1940, Bill was united in marriage to Rita Olivier at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Danville, KS, of the St. Joan of Arc Parish Community. This union was blessed with four children, William Jr., Ted, Susan and Kenneth. Bill and Rita celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on October 12, 2010 – a unique accomplishment in any day or time. Dancing and music were an important part of their dating years and married life, a passion they shared and passed on to their children.

Bill was a retired agent for the Railway Express Agency, which he had served from 1940-1975. During his career, he was the agent for REA in Harper, Anthony, Lyons, Winfield, Larned, Leavenworth, and Salina (all in Kansas); Miami, Lawton and Oklahoma City (all in Oklahoma); Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and was the manager in Austin, Texas at the time of his retirement in 1975.

A religious man, Bill was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic St. Joan of Arc Parish Community. He is a past Grand Knight of the Miami, OK Knights of Columbus.

A devoted family man, Bill Watts is best remembered by those he loved and who loved him as a faithful son, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, godfather and friend. During his lifetime, he was a coach of youth sports teams, a Cub and Boy Scout leader, Catechism teacher, and patron of the arts. He was a counselor to all who needed a friend, a few kind words and a gentle smile.

Bill will be deeply missed by his wife, Rita of Harper, KS; sons, William Watts Jr. and wife Helen of Indianapolis, IN, Ted Watts and his wife Faye of Oswego, KS; and Kenneth Watts and wife Selbe of Pueblo, CO, and son-in-law Ronald Duncan of Altus, OK; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter, Susan Duncan
