Iva Belle Mitchell, 88, of 717 Merritt St., Rensselaer, died Saturday, June 9 at 11:45 a.m.
She died at the Rensselaer Care Center after being in declining health. She came to Indiana in 1897 and lived in Jasper County most of her life.
She was born Aug. 10, 1895 in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of John and Lydia P. (Guldisc) Harris. She attended Gifford Public Schools in Jasper County.
She married Andrew Mitchell Sr. on May 16, 1910, in Rensselaer; he died Oct. 21, 1967. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Gilboa, south of Remington and was a homemaker.
Surviving are two sons and six daughter; Andrew Mitchell Jr., of Rensselaer, Edward Mitchell, of Remington, Alice (Mrs. Herbert) Melton, of Rensselaer, Dora Swartz, of Monticello, Theresa (Mrs. Paul) Jungels, of Wheatfield; Dorothy Roth, of Monticello, Ruth Kitermann, of Rensselaer, and Alberta (Mrs. Jennings) Rude, of Rensselaer.
Also surviving are 46 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. One sister, two sons, two daughters and one granddaughter preceded her in death.
Friends may call at the Steinke Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Monday. The funeral will be at the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Mary Burton officiating. Interment will be at Remington Cemetery.
