Obituary: Jefferson City Post Tribune, Thursday, July 22, 1999

Bernard J. "Ben" Gudeman, 81, St. Anthony, died July 21, 1999, at his home. He was born Dec. 14, 1917, in St. Elizabeth, a son of Henry and Mary Arens Gudeman. He was married Sept. 26, 1945, in St. Anthony, to Marie Herx, who survives at the home.

An Army veteran of World War II, he was a farmer in the St. Anthony area and worked for Independent Stave Co., Eldon, for 24 years. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Anthony; VFW Post 6167, Iberia; and American Legion Post 0545, St. Elizabeth.

Other survivors include: one son, Harold Gudeman, St. Anthony; one daughter, Mary Ann Otto, St. Elizabeth; one brother, Herman Gudeman, St. Anthony; and two granddaughters.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The Rev. John Schutty will officiate. Burial, with military honors will be in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the St. Anthony Parish Hall, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia.
