Roy grew up in Sardis Texas, still a very small community between Waxahachie and Midlothian Texas. Roy served in the U.S. Navy from Jan. 1953 to Jan. 1973. Roy retired as a Chief Hospital Corpsman. Roy married Camdin Darnelle Hinds on July 23, 1955 and had 4 children, Joseph, Mary, Nancy, and James.

Roy& Camdin's daughter Nancy Lynn Owen Bloomer died December 5.2013 from cancer
