Winthrop: Arthur Briggs, 71,passed away at Potsdam Hospital at 8 o'clock, Tuesday morning, Oct. 30, 1945 after an illness of four years.
He was born in Dekalb June 28, 1874, and was one of seven children of the late William and Isabel Montgomery Briggs. He worked for a time in the Henry Wells store in Potsdam, also in Bristol, Vt. Feb. 3, 1904, he married Miss Eva Steenberg of Winthrop. The ceremony was solemnized at Rouses Point by Rev. Mr. Fortier, of the Universalist Church. They went to Boston, Mass., where they resided for 13 years, during which time Mr. Briggs was employed by the Franklin Creamery Company.
One son, Elmer G. Briggs, was born to them. In September, 1921, the family came to Winthrop, where Mr. Briggs became superintendent of the local Dairyman's League Plant. The family has made their home in Brasher Falls for several years. Mr. Briggs was a member of the Masonic Lodge at North Lawrence.
Surviving are his wife in Brasher Falls, his son in San Diego and two grandsons, William Briggs, 17, and Wendall Briggs, 10, both of Massena. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Velma Pace of California and two brothers, Fred Briggs, of Monroe, N. Y., and Altan Briggs of Middletown, Conn., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the home by Rev. J. A. Plowright, pastor of the Congregational Church.
Interment will be made in Winthrop Cemetery.
