DEATH OF MRS Z. T. KESTLER
Mrs. Z. T. Kestler passed away Saturday morning, May 3, 1924, at the home of her son, Frank Kestler and family, on east Auburn avenue. While she had been confined to her bed for two years and nine months, her death came suddenly and was a shock to family and friends.
She had been an invalid for twenty-seven years and patient suffering had been her lot. For fourteen years she had been tenderly cared for in the home of her son, Frank, who , with the members of his family has ministered to her with a tender devotion, and all that loving hands could do for her comfort and to allay her suffering was done.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. J. D. Pontius, of the Christian church, assisted by Rev. J. I. Dool, of the First Presbyterian church, were held at the Kestler home on Sunday afternoon at four o'clock, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Chariton cemetery by the side of her beloved companion, who preceded her in death about three years ago.
Elizabeth Alice Beam, daughter of Samuel and Mary L. Beam, was born in Mt. Pulaski, Ill., on March 31, 1855. She grew to young womanhood and was married at that place on October 13, 1880, to Z. T. Kestler. To this union two sons were born. They are J. F. Kestler of Chariton and R. C. Kestler of Humeston.
She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Katie B. Wilson, of Rolfe, Iowa, and two brothers, Dr. Frank K. Beam of Ames, and L. R. Beam of Beaver, Iowa. Six grandchildren are also living, Pauline, Dick, Hal and Betty Kestler of Chariton, and Wayne and Dorothy Kestler of Humeston. To all these bereaved ones the sympathy of innumerable friends will be extended.
When quite young Mrs. Kestler was converted and united with the Christian church and has lived a faithful, earnest Christian life. The family came to Chariton in 1898 and during her residence here Mrs. Kestler had won the love and esteem of all with whom she came in contact. She was a devoted wife and mother, a splendid neighbor, and a kind friend. Her days of suffering are over and she has gone to her eternal and heavenly home.
