Marie was baptized in St. Dunstons Basilica Roman Catholic Church in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
Her sponsors were Charles Riley and Ann Bouderault.

She spent her early childhood in Shediac, New Brunswick, Canada, where her parents were married.
Records there have her name as Francoise Cormier. Her family immigrated to the USA in 1892. The 1900 census lists them as living in north Oxford, Ma.

Marie's father was probably working in P.E.I., at the time of her birth.
