Dexter Daily Statesman
Billy Eugene Brown, Sr. of Springfield, formerly of Dexter, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, in Springfield. He was the son of Marilliaun Maloney Brown and John Francis Brown.
He was first united in marriage to Alta Henson on Oct. 1, 1949, in Piggott, Ark., and she preceded him in death on Feb. 27, 1993. He was united in marriage to Mary Maxine James on March 3, 2001, at Dexter, and she survives of the home in Springfield.
Preceding him in death were John Francis Brown and Marilliaun Maloney Bolden; infant son John Stephen Brown; and sister, Jessie Young; two brothers and a sister at a young age.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Portageville, Mo., a retired State Farm Insurance agent for 31 years, and a past member of the Kiwanis Club, veteran of the Korean War, service as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corp.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Brown of Springfield; son, Billy Eugene Brown, Jr. of Jonesboro, Ark.; daughters, Tamela Sue (Steve) Thurman of Cape Girardeau, and Kristi Elaine (Rick) Johnson of Paxton, Ill.; step-son, Jesse Ray (Tammy) James of Springfield; step-daughters, Janet Davisson and husband John of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Anita Marie (Rodney) Hartlein of Springfield, Mo.; six grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville, Mo.
Funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Portageville with Rev. Dr. Buck Morton officiating.
Interment followed at Portageville Cemetery with full military rites.
