Mr. Waldo A. Kempfer, age 82, of New Glarus, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 1989, at St. Clare Hospital, Monroe. The son of Frederick and Rose (Warner) Kempfer, he was born on October 18, 1906, in Verona Township, Dane County. On August 11, 1927, he was united in marriage to the former Anna B. Hefty, in Verona. The couple farmed in Primrose Township and then in New Glarus Township until 1971, when they moved to the Village of New Glarus. Waldo was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ, New Glarus, and the Alpine Club. Survivors include his wife, Anna of New Glarus; a daughter-in-law, Viola Saxer of New Glarus; five grandchildren, Linda (Willis) Disch, Roy (Sue) Kempfer of Appleton, and Mike (Cherri) Kempfer of Blanchardville; two brothers, Gilman and Lloyd Kempfer, both of Madison; six sisters, Mrs. Hilda Selje, Mrs. Gladys Harrison, Mrs. Rose Huber, and Mrs. Viola Hohlstein, all of Madison, Mrs. Clara Hefty of Verona, and Mrs. Edna Schneider of Fort Atkinson; and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Clifford, on October 26, 1969; and brothers and sisters, Laura and Vernon in infancy, Josie Goth, Fred Kempfer, Wilber Kempfer, Marion Kempfer, and Alvin Kempfer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 1989, at 11:00 a.m., at the SWISS UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, New Glarus, the Reverend William Koehler and Reverend E.w. Guinther officiating, with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery, New Glarus. Relatives and friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., on Friday, January 6, at the ZENTNER-BEAL FUNERAL HOME, New Glarus.
