He died Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at University Medical Center. He was born April 26, 1917 in Hollis, Oklahoma. He married Dora Holland on January 1, 1960 in Mineral Wells, Texas. She died September 28, 2001.
Mr. Rufus attended school in La Casa Oklahoma. He moved to Lamb County in 1958 where he was engaged in farming. In 1962 they returned to Mineral Wells where they owned and operated Lewis Laundry until his retirement in 1979 at that time he returned to Spade, Texas. He was a member of Lamb county Senior Citizens in Littlefield, Texas and also a member of 5th & Igoe Church of Christ in Anton, Texas.
Survivors include: one son,, Randy Lewis of Big Spring, Texas; one daughter, Joy Hayes of Sierra Vista, AZ; he has a brother, Ralph Lewis of Anton, Texas; two sisters, Reba Hail of Lubbock, Texas, and LaNorma Stringer of Lubbock, Texas; three grandchildren.
