The Conleys have been a family of much prominence with numerous representatives in Boone County for a century. These Conleys trace their ancestry back to Nicholas Connelly, who was born in Ireland and after coming to America lived in Maryland. He had three sons who were soldiers in the War of the Revolution. The only survivor of these three sons was John Connelly, who was born in Maryland in 1762. John Connelly after the Revolution moved out into the western wilderness of Kentucky and settled in Monroe County. From Kentucky in 1827 he came with wife, children, slaves and other property to Missouri and made settlement in Boone County, where he lived out his life. He died at the home of his son-in-law, John Turner, at Two Mile Prairie in 1849. Since the time of John Connelly the spelling of the family name has been Conley. John Connelly married Elizabeth Turner, and among their children were Frank Benjamin, John, James, Sanford, Mrs. Millie Searcy, Mrs. Minna White and Mrs. Sallie Turner. All of them married and reared families, and many of their descendants are still living in Boone County.
