SPRINGFIELD - Laura Mae Chappell went to her eternal rest on Friday, January 14, 2011 at Baystate Medical Center. She was born in Montgomery, Al on July 6, 1931, the daughter of the late Robert and Mary E. (Taylor) Brown. Laura worked as a Nurses Assistant, and retired from Pine Manor Nursing Home after 28 years of dedicated service. She leaves to cherish her precious memory, her husband, Abe Chappell of 62 years of marriage and her three daughters; Shirley Ann Chappell, Debra Elizabeth (John) Thorpe and Brenda Joyce (Michael) Sharpe, three grandchildren, John and Robert (Amber) Thorpe and Yohance Yellock and five great-grandchildren, Sierra, Robert II, Emily, Hamilton and Emerson as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to express a very special thank you to the Baystate Medical Center Staff who assisted Laura Mae during this most difficult time. They are forever grateful for the compassion and professionalism that the entire Baystate Medical staff, the emergency unit, the nurses, the entire S3 Oncology unit and the ambulance team, showed Laura Mae. "They were our Angels". The family will hold a private service followed by the Burial at Hillcrest Park Cemetery in Springfield, MA. Services entrusted to the Henderson Funeral Home.
