Howard Curtis Coleman, age 81, of Riegelwood, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2011.

He was born on May 16, 1929 in Carvers Creek to John W. and Ronie Davis Coleman. He would have been married to the love of his life for 59 years on January 19, 2011 Franziska Eidenschink Coleman.

He retired from the Air Force as a Master Sgt. and he also retired from DuPont. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting and grilling. Mr. Howard was a Quarter Master and then Commander for many years with the VFW Post 10401. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and National VFW Home for Children. He was chairman of the Carvers Creek Fire Dist. Committee. He was a member of Elmwood Lodge Hunting Club.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Coleman of the home; by his children, Patricia Soles and husband Kenneth of Riegelwood, Elizabeth Coleman and companion Bo of Whittier, NC, Bernice Cranford and husband Tim of Ft. Mill, SC, Curtis Coleman, Jr. of Riegelwood; two grandchildren, Crystal L. Smith and husband Greg and Kelly Ferrell; two great grandchildren, Anna Marie Smith and George Coleman Smith.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Carvers Creek UMC Cemetery with Rev. Buddy Champion officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Dr, Wilmington, NC 28401; and Carolina Canines for Service, PO Box 12643, Wilmington, NC 28405.
