ELIZABETHTON —James LaVonne "Vonne" Brockwell, 67, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.
A native of Washington County, he was a son of the late James and Pauline Pierce Brockwell. He was a 1961 graduate of Science Hill High School.
Vonne was a retired employee of Mapes Piano String Company. He served in the United States Army, serving in Germany. He was a member of Moores Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter and loved to listen to Gospel music.
Survivors include a daughter & son-in-law: LaDonna & Joshua Fair, Elizabethton; Step-Daughter & her husband: Shanine & Paul Riden, Friendsville, Tenn.; A Step-Granddaughter: Taylor Rayne Riden; His Ex-Wife, Irene Blevins Brockwell; A sister & very special brother-in-law: Jeanette & Robert Bowers, Elizabethton; Five Brothers: Wayne Brockwell, Bristol, Tn., Roger Brockwell, Tony Brockwell and Donald Brockwell and wife, Judy, all of Elizabethton, and Larry Brockwell, Bluff City. Several Nieces & Nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. James Richardson officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Buckles Cemetery. Music will be provided by Linda Bowers, Soloist. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, will be Raymond Williams, Chris Williams, Paul Riden, Joshua Fair, Robert Bowers and Jeff Brockwell. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jack Perkins, Albert Williams, Kenneth Mann, A.B. Grindstaff, Leon Blevins, Phillip Smith and his breakfast buddies.
The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the Doctors and Nursing Staff and Oncology Clinic at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center and the C Ground Nursing Staff.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Brockwell to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, Ma. 01202.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at his residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
