Elnora Brening McCoy passed away on Jan. 16, 2011.
She was born June 12, 1918, to Alexander and Katrina Sophia Lehr Brening in Ong. They moved to Sutton, where she at-tended elementary school and later to Lincoln, where she graduated from Lincoln High School. While there, she met her future husband, Robert Bruce McCoy; they were united in marriage Aug. 30, 1941, in Lincoln. The couple moved to North Platte in 1948. They were blessed with two children, Kathleen Suanne McCoy and Robert Bruce McCoy, Jr.Elnora was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for well over 50 years, taught Sunday school, was a Bluebird and Campfire Girls leader and the recipient of a lifetime membership to the Parent Teachers Association. She belonged to nu-merous organizations including Social Order of the Beauceants for more than 50 years, Eastern Star for many years, Ladies Auxiliary to the Shiners' Hospital, B.P.O. Does and a Charter Member of the Aching Backs Garden Club.Elnora loved God's beautiful gift of nature. She was an accredited Flower Show Judge and loved judging shows for many years. She was passionate about flowers and gardening, always had a large garden, sharing her abundance of vegetables with friends and neighbors. Her yard was always immaculate with numerous varieties of flowers in various brilliant colors blooming continuously. Elnora was a lifeguard and also taught swimming lessons. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for everyone. She received immense pleasure and satisfaction working with the kids at the Opportunity Center (ESU 16). On one occasion, Elnora took a bowl of fish so a severely incapacitated child confined to a wheelchair could observe them. The joy and excitement on the child's face was priceless and what it gave to Elnora was immeasurable. She was also devoted to working with the mentally-challenged kids at Washington Elementary School, providing them with pumpkins on Halloween, delectable goodies at Christmas and appropriate items on Valentine's Day, Easter, etc. Elnora would pay them surprise visits just to show them how very much she cared. They always looked forward to seeing her and asked the teachers when she was coming. Years later, when she would see a former student in a store they would come up to her and say, "Mrs. McCoy, do you remember me?" and would always give her an affectionate hug. The love she gave to the kids was obvious and it meant the world to them. Elnora was a very compassionate, loving, giving, caring lady and will be missed immensely.Her constant companion for 17 years was her beloved black miniature Poodle, Samantha, affectionately called Sammie. She also dearly loved her kitty, Baby Impi. Elnora was an avid "Big Red" fan, never missing a Huskers game. She also loved the Denver Broncos and Colorado Avalanche and always watched their games, too.
Elnora and Bob loved traveling, owned several Pace Arrow motorhomes through the years and received a great amount of enjoyment driving leisurely all over the United States.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; two brothers; and her husband. She is survived by her daughter; son; two grandsons; nieces; and nephews. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.
