He was raised in Copan, Oklahoma, receiving his education there, and graduated high school in 1959. As a youth, he worked on a dairy farm, owned by his parents; in school, was involved in FFA and sports; learned to ride bulls, entered many rodeos over the years, won the 1964 SCA Bull Riding Championship; and, he was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He died on November 24, 2010, in Independence, Mongomery County, Kansas, at the age of 69 years. Private graveside services were held on November 27, 2010 with burial in Robbins Cemetery.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, and he is survived by two children, two brothers, a wife, relatives and friends.
