W.A. Matkin died December 24, 1915, at the age of 36. He had been employed as a brakeman, then a conductor, for the Cotton Belt. While working with the Texas and Pacific Railroad at Mineola, he suffered the loss of both legs. He served as an alderman of Tyler.

Mr. Matkin was survived by his mother, Mrs. L.J. Matkin of Jacksonville; his widow; one child; and a sister, Miss Lillie Matkin, Jacksonville. Several members of the Order of Railway Conductors served as honorary pallbearers, forming a line at the residence where the funeral was held, and marching to the cemetery.
