Newark, N.J. - Emma Jean Armstrong, 48, died in Beth Israel Hospital Wednesday after a short illness.

The Bulloch County native was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Armstrong and Roselyn Brooks, both of Newark, N.J.; three sons, Emerson Armstrong, Charles Brooks, Jr. and Andrae Brooks, all of Newark, N.J.; her mother, Ellen Melvin, Brooklet; two sisters, Mary Melvin, Hempstead, N.Y., and Esther Melvin, Albany, Ga.; seven brothers, Freddy Melvin, Newark, N.J., Tommy Melvin, Shirley, Mass., Frankie Melvin, Brooklet, Andrew Melvin, Statesboro, Ronnie Melvin, Ft. Hood, Calif., Sherman Melvin, Jr., Albany, Ga., and Sam Jones, Savannah; and two grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. E. S. Woods officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
