He was born Sept. 21, 1920, in Tazewell County, Ill., son of the late Alfred F. "Frank" Raymer and Nellie Dee Weese Raymer of Minier, Ill. Sam graduated from Minier High School in 1938.
He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. before enlisting in the Army in 1942, serving his country in World War II on the Burma Road.
Following his discharge from service, Sam worked in construction and later owned his own commercial HVAC company.
Sam had two children by his first marriage, Fred and Nancy, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Donna Cutter on June 3, 1977, in Peoria, Ill.
In addition to his wife of 34 years, Donna Ray Raymer, Sam is survived by his stepdaughters, Pamela Koschnitzke and husband, Karl of Sherrills Ford, and Rhonda Cutter of Conover.
Burial will take place in Illinois.
