MARRIED.
WIELAND—GLEASON—At the residence of the bride’s mother, Mrs. S. A. Gleason, No. 143 south Sixth street, on Wednesday evening, Sept. 16th, 1885, by the Rev. N. B. Kelly; Fred W. Wieland and Miss Lucy D. Gleason.
At eight o’clock on Wednesday evening a party consisting of the most intimate friends of the contracting parties assembled at the residence to witness the ceremony and see the couple started out on the voyage of life. At exactly 9 o’clock the bridal party emerged from and adjoining room to the parlor where the Rev. N. B. Kelly performed the impressive ceremony which binds them together for life. The bridesmaid and groomsman were Miss Kate White, of this city, and Mr. C. T. Smith, of Minneapolis. The bride wore a dress of dark surah silk with natural flowers, tea roses and smilax, and looked lovely in the attire, while the groom was dressed in the conventional suit. The bridesmaid wore a dark brocaded silk dress with natural flowers.
After the ceremony was over came the congratulations, after which refreshments consisting of fruit, ice cream and cake was served. The evening’s enjoyment was enlivened by music both instrumental and vocal and the company departed for their homes at 11:30 o’clock.
The groom is the junior member of the DISPATCH, a young man of sterling qualities and hosts of friends, while the bride is an acknowledged belle of Brainerd. The couple start out in life under favorable circumstances and with the best wishes of the community. They started for Mt. Gilead, Ohio, Mr. Wieland’s former home, on Thursday morning, where they will visit for a couple of weeks, returning to Brainerd the early part of October.

Here 75 Years
One of Brainerd's oldest residents, Mrs. Lucy Wieland, 407 North Fourth street, died at her home at 9:45 this morning.
Mrs. Wieland was 87 years of age. She was born Sept. 2, 1867, in Muskegon, Mich., and came to Brainerd when a young girl. She had been a resident here for over 75 years.
Mrs. Wieland and Fred W. Wieland were married in Brainerd Sept. 16, 1881, and established their home here.
Mr. Wieland was part of the firm of Ingersoll and Wiland, which established the first daily paper in Brainerd. The paper was later sold to the Dispatch company.
Mrs. Wieland was the oldest living member of the First Congregational church here and before becoming ill in 1948, she was active in church events and the ladies aid.
Surviving are one son, Walter, Brainerd, one daughter, Mrs. M. A. Schillington, Minneapolis, three grandchildren, Mrs. Arnold Tremann, Excelsior, Mary Lou Schillington, Minneapolis, and James F. Wieland, St. Paul; one sister, Mrs. Peter Wick, Dell Rapids, S. D.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at the First Congregational church. The Rev. Howard Vernon will officiate. Friends may call at the Whitney funeral chapel from Friday afternoon until noon Saturday and at the church until time of the service.
