Pvt. Ole Olson was one of several Olean soldiers who were killed during the breaking of the Hindenberg Line in late September 1918. He was the son of Mrs. Thomas Olson of W. Water Street. His body was returned to Olean on April 12, 1921. His funeral was held from St. Stephen's Church, and he was buried alongside Sgt. Ernest H. Colebert, a lifelong friend and comrade at arms who died at the same time.
Initially buried Oct 19, 1918 at American Cemetery (Flanders Field), Bony, Aisne, France. He was disinterred on Jan 19, 1921 and shipped to Calais, France arriving on Jan 31, 1921. From there he was shipped to Hoboken, NJ on March 21, 1921 on ship "Cambrai" arriving April 3, 1921. He was then shipped to Olean, NY on April 11, 1921, arriving the next day.
