VETERAN NEWS REPORTER DIES AT 90 YEARS
George R.Wagenseller, 90 of 257 N.Oakcrest ave. died at 4:40 am today. For nearly 50 years Mr.Wagenseller was a newspaper reporter. He came to Decatur about 1890 and work as a reporter on the old Republican. With his brother Charles they acquired the Bulletin, which they changed to the News. After that paper had been absorbed in a consolidation both brothers became reporters on the Herald. Mr. Wagenseller remained as a reporter on the paper with the exception of two brief interruptions until the early 1930s. He was an authority on early railroad history of Decatur and Macon county. He was a member of the Episcopal church
Mr. Wagenseller was born in Pekin, Aug, 12, 1861, a son of Dr. and Mrs.Samuel Wagenseller. He was married in Decatur,Dec. 13,1900 to Elsie Miller who died Dec. 11, 1950. He leaves a daughter,Kathryn, at home a son Dr.Sam Wagenseller,California and a sister Mrs. C.B.Irwin, Cal. There is one grandchild and one great grandchild.
The funeral will be at 2 pm Thursday at Morans and a private burial will be later.
All members of his family were removed from Greenwood and moved to Fairlawn.
