Helen Rose Brotz, age 90, of Sheboygan WI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday the 5th of January 2011 at St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan, WI. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her death.
Helen was born on December 9, 1920 in Sheboygan Falls WI. Her parents were John and Rosia Pongratz. They immigrated from Mor, Hungary to Sheboygan Falls where they ran an orchard. Helenʼs twin sister, Hilda, preceded her in death. Other siblings included one brother and five older sisters. She attended Sheboygan Falls High School, graduating in 1938. After high school Helen went on to attend Sheboygan Business College and worked as a private secretary for four years.
In 1941 Helen met Frank Brotz at a local dance and they married in June of 1942 in a simple ceremony at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sheboygan Falls. Frank preceded her in death in 1983.
Helen and Frank had 8 children, Barbara Brotz; Frank Brota;, Kathleen Brotz (who preceded her in death), Gregory Brotz; Jennifer Brotz; Stuart Brotz; Jacqueline Brotz;and Michel Brotz.
A devout Catholic, Helen was a member of St. Clement Parish. She was a CCD teacher there and prayed the rosary daily. Over the years, Helen enjoyed riding and showing the family's Arabian horses, oil painting, feeding the birds in her backyard and was an avid reader. In her 50's, she proudly returned to school at UW-Sheboygan to study French. Helen traveled and was an excellent cook and homemaker. In 1998 she wrote the book, Memory Highlights, chronicling her life.
One of her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren, 13 in all. ( Living omitted for privacy)
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Helen on Monday, January 10, 2011 at St. Clement Catholic Parish, 707 N. 6th Street, Sheboygan WI 53081. The Reverend James Connell. Pastor, will be the Celebrant.
Helen will be interred next to her husband, Frank, at Woodland Cemetery in Kohler WI.
