Married in Mazeppa, Pennsylvania on December 19, 1941, to the former Ethel M. Walter.

Was a 1940 graduate of Mifflinburg High School and received a certificate from the Sunbury Private Trade School in 1951.

He enlisted in the Army in January 1944 and was honorably discharged as a private first class in January 1946 having served with the 315 3rd Signal Service Co. He served in New Guinea and Luzon, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, the Victory Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Service Ribbon with two bronze stars.

Was a Woodworker/Carpenter.

According to his obituary, in addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons; three daughters; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one brother, Wilson E. of Mifflinburg; five sisters, June B. Tyson, Lottie D. Knorr, both of Mifflinburg, Caroline H. Wenrick of Hartleton, Pauline L. Thompson of Shillington, and Laura E. Rishel of Belleville.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Eugene and William Benner Bilger.
