A funeral service for Zula May Elizabeth Jordan Kirby, 80, of Hartsville will be held at 12 o'clock Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia with The Rev. Mark J. Wendland officiating. Interment will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 11 o'clock. The family asks that friends call or send condolences to Linda Venturelli, 910 Power St., Hartsville, SC 29550.
Mrs. Kirby died January 15, 2011 in Hartsville. Born June 27, 1930, she was the 4th of 8 siblings born to Frank D. and Eula Horton Jordan in Columbia. The family moved to Rabon Road in Columbia when she was 11 where they remained for many years. She graduated from Dentsville High school and later was married to Mr. Arthur Lee Kirby of Union, SC in September of 1949 with whom she enjoyed many years of marriage until he passed away in 2004. During her life, she worked at Kress Dime Store, Hobart, US Textile and Bayview Baptist Church. She also watched many of the neighborhood children in a daycare at her home. Mrs. Kirby loved playing the piano, gardening, and caring for dogs, but her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She adored them and helped raise them.

Survivors include her brother, O'Dell Jordan and adopted sister, Irene Kirby Shull; sons, Jordan Lee Kirby and Travis Lee Kirby; daughter, Linda Venturelli; grandchildren, Danny Venturelli, Dena Battelene, Belinda Walker, Melonie Falko and Kevin Kirby; great grandchildren, Alex Battelene and Michael Konrad Walker and Brenda Leeanne Walker
