Doris E. Cole, age 66 of Valparaiso passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011 at her home.
She was born on November 16, 1944 in Bozeman, MT to Ernest and Hattie (Plowman) Terpstra.
Doris graduated from St. Xavier University with a Masters in Education and then received her PHD in Education from the University of Illinois Chicago. She was the Associate Professor of Education for 11 years at Valparaiso University, retiring in 2008. Doris was a member of South Bend Christian Reformed Church, a past Elder at church, and member of the Council of Exceptional Children.
On February 13, 1964 in Grand Rapids, MI, Doris married Howard E. Cole who survives along with their 3 children, Jodine (Richard) Meyer of Hudsonville, MI, Brenda (Dave) Normoyle of Ripon, CA, and Gregory (Julie) Cole of Hudsonville, MI; 13 grandchildren; brother, Jim (Kathy) Terpstra of Surprise, AZ; and sister, Marilyn (Clif) Alberda of Manhattan, MT.
She was preceded in death by her parents and niece, Carolyn Terpstra.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at 6:00 PM CST at the South Bend Christian Reformed Church 1855 N Hickory Rd South Bend 46635 with Pastor Mark Roeda officiating.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 PM CST at Moeller Funeral Home 104 Roosevelt Rd, Valparaiso and Wednesday at Church from 4:00 PM CST until the time of service.
Burial will take place at Churchill Cemetery in Manhattan, MT.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the VNA Hospice 2401 Valley Dr, Valparaiso 46383 or the Valparaiso University Special Education Department.
