DECATUR HERALD 2/26/1951

Charles N. Wagenseller, 87, retired Mueller Co. advertising manage and editor of the Mueller Record died at midnight Saturday in a Jacksonville hospital. He was taken to Jacksonville Friday from Decatur, where he had been a patient in St. Marys hospital for a week.

Mr. Wagenseller came to Decatur from Pekin at the age of 18. He started a career of newspaper and advertising work in Pekin where his first job was a delivery boy for the Pekin times. Mr. Wagenseller with his brother, George R. of Decatur acquired the old Decatur bulletin which hey changed to the News. In 1899 the brothers came to the Decatur Herald where Charles as a reporter and city editor until 1906. On Leaving the Herald he became a member of the advertising staff of the Mueller Co.and was promoted to advertising manager in 1911. He originated the Mueller Record a company publication and was its editor until 1945 when he retired after 39 years with the Mueller Co.

He was born in Pekin, July 1, 1863 son of the late Dr.and Mrs.Samuel Wagenseller. He was a member of the Episcopal church in Pekin. He leaves his wife, Mary M. and three sons by a former marriage. They are Paul of Houston, Dean of Baltimore, and Kirk of Chicago. A brother George R of Decatur and a sister Mrs. Carrie B. Irwin of Calif. He leaves one grandson.

The body was taken to Morans and private services will be Tuesday and the body will be cremated in St. Louis and burial will be at a later date in the family plot in Fairlawn.
