Obituary

Elizabeth Lemon was born in Columbia County, Pa., Feb. 7, 1814, and lived with her parents there until 1838, when she was united in marriage to Josiah Lockhardt, and resided in that vicinity until 1843, when they emigrated to Mercer co., Illinois, residing there until the spring of 1866, when they emigrated to Allen county, Kansas, where they lived until her husband's death, on March 20, 1894, after which she retained a welcome home with her son, James and wife. In June, 1898, she was afflicted with paralysis and was confined to her bed from that time until her death. She was the mother of seven children, two sons and five daughters, of whom two sons and three daughters are still living. Since her husband's death she has resided with her son, James, until two weeks ago, when she was brought to Humboldt to visit with her daughter, Mrs. Williams. She united with the Christian church early in life and was a faithful believer until her death.

Mrs. Lockhart was well known by a large circle of friends who are grieved at her at her departure, and the sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved relatives in the irreparable loss.

The funeral services were held at the Christian church Tuesday at 2 p.m. and were conducted by Rev. T. A. Rothwell, and attended by a large number of friends. After the church services the remains were laid to rest in the DeWitt cemetery west of town.
