Paul Devaney died Thursday evening, Jan. 13, 2011, during his 72nd year, after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. A celebration of Paul's life was held privately. In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association , in his memory, is suggested.

Born Sept. 15, 1938 in Fort Worth, Paul was the son of John F. and Frances Ratliff Devaney. He attended St. Mary's Catholic grade school, Daggett Junior High and R.L. Paschal High School before briefly attending Arlington State College, now the University of Texas at Arlington, before entering the U.S. Army. He served in the Army from 1963 to 1965 and was stationed in Germany. Upon his discharge he went to work for Alcon where he spent 29 years. Paul loved to travel. He enjoyed music, dancing, camping and hiking. He was an animal lover and always had cats and dogs.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Southwest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Brentwood Hospice for their excellent care of Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John; and sister, Carolyn. Survivors: In addition to his sister, Betty Hillaker, Paul is survived by brothers, Thomas Devaney and his wife, Jo, Richard, Michael, and Stephen and his wife, Lynn; 15 nieces and nephews and their families; his aunt, Rosie Devaney of Burnet; and his longtime friend, Doris Ravey of Rio Vista.
