served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean conflict. As a young adult, John was an avid motorcycle rider. He drove logging trucks, owned a Harley-Davidson dealership in McMinnville, and also worked as a McMinnville policeman.
John married Mary Thompson in 1954. He spent his career with Saleco Windows and LD Thomas Company as a plastics extruder, die maker and machinist. John had one daughter, Susan, born in 1957. In 1990, John and Mary moved to Crooked River Ranch. John will be remembered as soft-hearted, thoughtful, and quick to smile, an amazing problem
solver, a hard worker, and a dedicated supporter of his family and friends. His gentle spirit will live on in all who knew him.
John was preceded in death by two sisters, Merna Braun and Wilma Proctor. His wife, Mary, passed away on March 28,
2011.
He is survived by his daughter, Sue Combs; grandsons Kevin Krogh and Kyle Krogh; and brothers, Verlin Combs and Merle Combs.
Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, on May 16, 2011, at 2 p.m.
