C. E. SURFUS DIES OF CANCER AT THE ACE OF 74

Clarence E. Surfus, 74. of 201 North Lee street, Garrett, a retired B. & O. car inspector and a resident of Garrett for more than 40 years, died Sunday at 12:50 a. m. at Sanders hospital, Auburn, of cancer after an illness of two and a half years. He was a patient in the hospital five weeks.

The body was brought to the Forest D. Zimmerman funeral home and it will be taken to the residence Monday afternoon. Final rites will be held at the residence Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. H. L. Dunson. pastor of the Garrett Church of Christ, will officiate and burial will follow in Cedar Chapel cemetery, southeast of Garrett.

Mr. Surfus was born Oct. 1, 1872, in Allen county. He and Luella Armstrong of Allen county were married Dec. 5, 1893. She died May 7, 1943. A daughter, Mrs. Carl Meek, died in February, 1945.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Eva Snyder, who lived with her father; one brother, John B. Surfus of the Ashley road, northeast of Garrett; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mr. Surfus was a member of the Church of Christ.
