Forrest Ivan GROGG, 84, of 529 Clayton Ave., died at 7:20 p.m. Thursday at Life Care Center where he had been a patient for one month. He had been in failing health for a year.
Mr. Grogg was born March 11, 1906 near Gilead in Miami County to Mason and Alice CHRISTNER GROGG. He moved from the Gilead area to Fulton County where he lived most of his life. In October 1930 he married Frances Ruth CONRAD, who died in October 1950. On Dec. 5, 1959 he married Evelyn S. SMITH, who died April 29, 1990. He was a retired union carpenter and farmer, a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Eagles Lodge.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Phillip (Melinda) COHEE, Rochester, and Mrs. Charles (Jeanette) CAUSEY, Syracuse four grandchildren; eleven step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren; a step-daughter, Louise CLARK, Rochester; four step-sons, Albert "Bud" SMITH, New Haven, James SMITH, Aurora, Ill.; Thomas SMITH, with the U.S. Army in Bad Tolz, Germany, and Donald SMITH, Mishawaka. Preceding in death were his parents, a sister, Theresa [GROGG], and a brother, Therean [GROGG].
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Akron Cemetery. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside rites. There will be no visitation. Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, is in charge of arrangements.
