David Carver, 97, Who Knew Lincoln, Dies - Believed Last Surviving Member of Volunteer Fire Department. David W. Carver, West Monroe street, a friend of Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas died yesterday morning at the residence at the age of 97 years. Mr. Carver often told of debates between Lincoln and Douglas that he attended. The aged man is believed to be the last surviving member of Springfield's volunteer fire department.

Born in 1836 at Stephens City, Va., Mr. Carver came to Illinois and located in Springfield in 1857. For many years he was associated with the R. B. Zimmerman company. in this city he married Hester Graham, the only daughter of William and Elizabeth Trotter Graham. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Ella Cadwallader, Huntington, W. Va.; one son, George A., city, and one daughter, Bertha L. Carver, at home. IL State Journal, Springfield, IL, 11-3-1933
