VIRGINIA "RUTH" KLANDER ATKINSON

Ruth, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday Jan. 10th 2011. She was born on Feb. 26th 1919 to William and Letha Klander of Wilmington. She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father; Alfonso, her Husband of 44 years, before his death; and a son Sammy Atkinson. Seven brothers and sisters also predeceased her.

She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Midgette of Winnabow, Jean Irving (Gill) of Leland, two sons, Ray Atkinson (Carole) of Hondo TX, Howard Atkinson (Dee) of Leland, also a daughter in law, Rose of Panama City, FL. Twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren. Surviving also is her baby sister, Joyce Dickerson (Bruce) of Lodi CA. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth was a long standing member of Winter Park Presbyterian Church. She loved her church family and enjoyed attending services there. Ruth had a very productive life raising her five children and working as Head Baker at Roland Grise School for 17 years. A lot of the kids there called her "grandma" and they loved her Cinnamon Buns.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday Jan 13th at Coble Ward Smith Funeral Service, Oleander Drive. Services will be on Friday Jan 14th at 1 pm at the Oleander Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Matt Highfill of Winter Park Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers will be the grandchildren.
