Mrs. Vinecy Jane Merriss, 80, died at 10:45 am Friday at her home, 862 W.Olive Street. Death was caused by influenza and heart trouble after an illness of eight weeks.
Mrs.Merriss maiden name was Eveland.She was born in Bath, Ill, Dec. 20, 1852. Most of her life was spent there. She and George W. Merriss were married in St.Louis, May 24, 1870. His death occurred Oct.14. 1904.That same year Mrs. Merriss came to Decatur and has resided here ever since.She was a regular attendant at the First Church of Christ, Scientist.
She is survived by three children,Clyde, Merriss, Miss Olive Merriss and Charles H. Merris, all of Decatur. There are four grandchildren.
She was the last of her immediate family.The body was taken to the Dawson & Wikoff funeral home, where friends may call.
