Civil War: Company K and B, 23rd Missouri Infantry

Burrel[l] Quimbey Musgrave, Jr., was born in Pulaski County, Missouri, about 1842. He was the son of Burrell Quimby Musgrave, Sr., and Olive Robinson (1850 U.S. Census). During the Civil War he enlisted as a private at Rolla, Missouri, in April 1863 and was mustered into Company K, 23rd Missouri Infantry. He was transferred to Company B September 15, 1863. An exploding shell inflicted shrapnel wounds to his hand and neck. Private Musgrave was mustered out at Louisville, Kentucky, July 18, 1865. He married (1) (unknown) in Missouri in late 1865 or early 1866. He moved to Texas where he married (2) Francis Jane Wallen in Atascosa County on April 18, 1871. By 1880 he was living at Fort Concho (San Angelo). In June 1890 he was living at Valentine, Presidio County. During his residence at Douglas, Cochise County, Arizona, he developed the city's "Musgrove [sic] District" and registered to vote there in 1904, 1906, 1909 (Cochise Great Register). Shortly thereafter he moved to El Paso, Texas, where he died in 1917. He was buried near his second wife and son Charles in Elm Grove Cemetery, Alpine, Texas.
