Horton Headlight: Peden - Benjamin Franklin Peden, 87, Horton streets supervisor for eight years, died at a Hiawatha nursing home, Thursday Nov. 26, 1970, following a long illness and hospitalization. Mr. Peden, Ben as he was affectionally known to many friends and associations, was born Feb. 20, 1887 in Wathena and lived for almost 40 years in the Wathena and Troy areas before moving to Horton in 1932. After coming to Horton Ben worked for the Kansas State Highway Departmant for several years. He entered city employment as streets supervisor in June 1948 and retired in May 1956. He is survived by his wife, Mary Peden of the home in Horton; two sons, Stanley Peden of Falls City, Neb., and Norman Peden of Topeka; four daughters, Mrs. Dorcas Thomas, Valley Falls, Mrs. Ernestine Schecher and Mrs. Evelyn Robinson, Horton, Mrs. Bernice Smith, Mason, Tex.; 29 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Chaney Chapel with Rev. John Stoneking officiating. Burial was in Bellmont cemetery, Wathena.
