Death of John Darst
After more that a year's illness, John Darst passed away on May 7, 1910, at his farm three miles southwest of Fredonia. He was born at Berlin, Germany, January 8, 1838; came to America when fourteen years old; settled in Dayton, Ohio, but soon moved to Indiana, where he engaged in farming; moved to Kansas in 1882, locating upon the farm on which he lived until his death. He was married in 1863 at Newcastle, Indiana, to Regina Sheets, who survives him. Eight children were born to this union, two of whom passed away before the family moved to Kansas. With the exception of the oldest son, Chas. L., who resides in Seattle, Wash., all the children were present and attended him during his last sickness. They are Mrs. F.C. Monroe, Mrs. Owen Reed and Frank Darst, of Wilson county; Mrs. Jos. R. Long of Joplin, Mo., and Mrs. J.N. Miller of Madison, Kansas.
Mr. Darst had been a member and earnest worker in the Dunkard church for over 35 years. The Rev. E. Joyce of Altamont preached the funeral service.
