Lewiston – William A. "Chic" Carignan, age 93, of Bucknum St. Mexico, died Monday December 28, 2009 at Russell Park Manor surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Rumford on December 12, 1916 a son of Willie A. and Anna (Cote) Carignan. Chic was educated in Rumford Schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School.

Following graduation, Chic went to work for Oxford Paper Company for a short period of time, then joined the US Army during WWII and was stationed in England as an MP.

After the war, he went back to work for the Oxford Paper Company and retired as a watchman assigned to the lower gate.

Chic married the love of his life, Agnes "Aggie" Convery on June 20, 1949, and together they celebrated 56 years of marriage. He was a communicant of St. Theresa's Catholic Church.
Chic was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and was a Golden Eagle Member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was also a member of the St. Andrew's Society of Maine and the 40+ year club at Boise Cascade.

He enjoyed gardening, and especially family gatherings. Chic was a great fan of the Boston Bruins and the New York Yankees.

Surviving are two brothers, Dr. Roland "Tibi" Carignan of Dixfield, and Fr. Raymond "Moots" Carignan, SSJ of Gulfport, Mississippi; also, nieces, Cynthia Flaherty, Gloria Hargreaves, Pamela Gill, and Deborah LaPerle; nephews, Dr. Peter Carignan, Paul Carignan, William "Bizz" Carignan, James Convery, Robert Convery, and Raymond Convery; and many Great Nieces and Great Nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Agnes (Convery) Carignan, and two brothers, BRO. Armand Carignan, and Leo "Kiyo" Carignan; and nieces Carmen Carignan Davis, and Sandra (Irving) Carignan.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Chic's girls, Jane McDonald, Carrie McPherson, Gayle McPherson and "Peaches," and the staff at Russell Park Manor and Androscoggin Hospice.
