The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2011, in the chapel of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls with Reverend Danny Hodgkins officiating. Interment will follow at the Burkburnett Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
The son of Cara and A. J. Tipton, he was born March 28, 1932, in Marietta, Oklahoma. Odell and Joyce Johnson were married June 8, 1952, in Wichita Falls.
Odell worked for Falls Bowl and Village Bowl. He was a retired bowler and member of the Pro-Bowlers Association. He was named Bowler of the Year in 1987 and inducted into the Bowlers Hall of Fame in 1987. He was a Life Member of the Wichita Falls Bowling Association having served as past city secretary of the WFBA from 1969-1972. He bowled his first "300" game on June 14, 1983, and his second on February 10, 1987. He was also a past PBA member.
Odell loved his career of bowling, spoiling his grandchildren, and making new friends, which was everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: wife, Joyce Tipton; daughter, Joanna Tipton and husband, Michael Lee; son, Wesley Tipton and wife, Charlotte; three grandchildren; and his dog, Sandy.
The family will receive friends and family at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 12 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
