Hazel Louise Sloan Spencer, 81, of Jasper died passed away Wednesday, Jan. 5 (2011) at her residence.
The daughter of Wilburn Sloan and Bessie (Martin) Sloan was born April 27, 1929, at Jasper.
She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and a member of the Jasper Methodist Church and Moose Lodge in Harrison. She was also a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Louise lived most of her life in Newton County, except for the times she lived in England and California while her husband was stationed in the United States Air Force.
She was married to John Duane Spencer on July 15, 1946.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two infant sisters; her stepmother, Elvie Sloan; and a daughter-in-law, Dimples Elaine Spencer.
Survivors are two sons, Jerry and his wife, Sharon Spencer, and Donald Spencer, all of Jasper; two sisters, Joyce Breedlove and Donna Henderson, both of Jasper; five grandchildren, Jerry J. "J.J." and wife, Shonti Spencer, of Rogersville, Mo., John and wife, Donna Spencer, of Harrison, Heather and husband, Darryl Little, of Jasper, Jessica Spencer of Harrison and Stephen Spencer of Jasper; a step-granddaughter, Vicky Davidson; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and best friend and traveling buddy, Ruby Carter of Jasper.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12 (2011) at Coffman Funeral Home Chapel in Jasper with Rev. Kenny Clark officiating. Burial will be in Jasper Cemetery under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Jasper. Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be J.J. Spencer, John Spencer, Stephen Spencer, Christopher Spencer, Gregory Spencer and Pat Henderson. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, great-grandchildren and members of the Moose Lodge.
