JEANETTE STRAUSSNER

Greenport resident Jeanette Straussner died at her home on Sept 9. She was 87.

Mrs Straussner was born in Brooklyn on Feb 2, 1906 to Herman and Anna Sorenson. She was a homemaker who also worked at her husband's gas station and Porky's Restaurant, both in Greenport. During World War II, Mrs Straussner was a shipyard guard. Her niece, Lorraine Dugan remembers her as someone who was "fearless" and "a hard worker".

Predeceased by her husband, Gus, she is survived by three nephews, Antone Straussner of Greenport, Thomas Straussner of Florida and Joseph Straussner of California; and three nieces, Lorraine Dugan of Smithtown; and Margaret Hoskin and Regina Gargani, both of Massapequa.

Family and friends gathered Sunday at F J McLaughlin Funeral Home in Greenport. The Rev Carl Weaver of St Peter's Lutheran Church in Greenport conducted memorial services at the funeral home on Monday. Burial followed in St Agnes Cemetery in Greenport.

Jeanette Sorenson first married Walter V. Klaus, the son of George A. and Josephine (Keller) Klaus from New York. As a child, both she and her sister Irene had lived with the family in foster care. She married Walter Klaus and her sister Irene married his brother Richard Clinton Klaus. Her marriage to Gus Straussner was a 2nd marriage for her, as it was for him.
