Edward A. FLETCHER was born 1845 in Palermo, Waldo County, Maine, USA. He was the first child of Sgt. Abisha Benson FLETCHER (1822-04-08) and Mariam Clark SPRATT (1824-12-26). He had three brothers (William Abisha FLETCHER (1851-04-24), Melville Spratt FLETCHER (1854-10-27), Fred Nathaniel FLETCHER (1856-09-15)) and five sisters (Emma W. FLETCHER (1847-06-30), Betsey C. FLETCHER (1849-06-30), Fannie FLETCHER (1853-06-30), Emeline Spratt FLETCHER (1861-10-27), Marion "Minnie" Leslie FLETCHER (1862-06-30)).

On 1867-08-18, he died in China, Kennebec, Maine, USA when he was 22 years old. He was buried in China Village Cemetery, Kennebec, Maine, USA.

Edward A. Fletcher, 18, Co G, 24th Inf. Corporal-Sgt. single. Lt complex; Blue eyes; auburn hair. Enlisted 10 Sept 1862. MI 13 Oct 1862 for 9 mos. Clerk. Born Palermo; res China. 5' 10 and 3/4 inches. Left service 25 Aug 1863. MO: honorable discharge. MI and MO at Augusta. In Civil War (The war in the United States between the Union and the Confederacy from 1861 to 1865. Also called War Between the States.) Company G. 24th Infantry. Since he died only three years after the close of the war, he may have died from disease contacted during the war; such was the case for many in this terrible war. The 24th Regt. Maine Infantry mustered in 29 Sept 1862 for 9 months at Augusta; mustered out 25 August 1863. Battles: Port Hudson, LA. Casualties: 1 killed. 190 died of disease. The 26th Regt mustered in October 1862 at Bangor for 9 mos. Mustered out 17 August 1863. Battles: Irish Bend, LA and Port Hudson, LA. 34 killed or died of wounds. 131 died of disease.
