Miss Emeline Spratt and her niece, Miss Alice Spratt, of this city, met with a narrow escape from death at China Lake in China on Wednesday. They were in a sail boat with two other ladies and a gentleman, and were capsized in the middle of the lake. They held to the gunwhale of the floating craft and were rescued by a boat which put off from the shore. All were in an exhausted condition when rescued and could not have have held on much longer. 21 July 1886
